Any One Who Had a Heart – Cilla Black & Luther Vandross

  1. Anyone Who Had a Heart Cilla Black 2:51
  2. Anyone Who Had a Heart Luther Vandross 5:45

This song has a wonderful, but quite involved back story. The VERY short version is that Dionne Warwick released this song in early 1964 and it shot to #1 in the U.S.  In February of 1964, Beatles producer George Martin recorded a somewhat unknown Cilla Black singing the song. The song moved quickly up the UK charts, meantime, Dionne’s version was released in the UK two weeks later. While Cilla’s version went to #1 for several weeks, Dionnes version broken at #42 and two weeks later fell off the charts completely having dropped to #47. Dionne, to say the least was NOT happy with the situation and resented Cilla the rest of her days. For the WHOLE story go to: I https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anyone_Who_Had_a_Heart_(song)

I included the Luther Vandross version released in 1986 on the playlist because it is an awesome performance, as ALL Luther’s recordings were. Talk about a gifted song stylist…Luther was one of the very best.

It is interesting that the song when from a hit from a black women to a white women then to a black man…all three with unforgettable versions.
