Here You Come Again – Dolly Parton & Carly Smithson

Today you get two versions of a song.

It wasn’t until the late 70’s that I learned Dolly Parton was more than a well endowed singer. Since I rarely listened to country music, I knew very little of her work. Buty when I first heard “Here You Come Again” on the radio I was bowled over by it. Didn’t sound C&W to me, just a great song with a different kind of melody and some good lyrics (e.g. “…lookin’ better than a body has a right to,)

Fast forward several years to 2007 and Tucker and I are married and we are both into American Idol Season Seven. After the Top 10 are announced we are both rooting for an Irish woman named Carly Smithson. She made it to the Top 9 and sang…drum roll please…”Here You Come Again”. I LOVED her rendition, although since all Idol songs are pared down to make them fit into the show, it wasn’t long enough…I wanted more.  She gave Dolly a run and made it through to the Top 8. She made it to the Top 6 before she was eliminated.
