This is an amazing recording/performance. Marvin Gaye and his band at their very best, live as can be. I’m pretty sure that the bass player at this concert was the incomparable James Jamerson. One reason I thinks is correct is the Jamerson HATED any dead space…he felt compelled to add a note or two where other bass players might just hold a note a beat or two longer. Listen closely, you can’t miss it. And then there is Marvin personally leading the band from his piano…his playing is great and one hears choirs that aren’t on the studio cut 45. ENJOY!! And God bless Marvin Gaye’s soul.
