I Wanna Dance With Somebody – Whitney Houston

This song is the first cut on Whitney Houston’s second album released in 1987. Although critics loved her vocals, several people mentioned it sounded too much like Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” and Whitney’s song “How Will I Know”.
Be that as it may, the record was a huge smash staying at the top of Billboard’s Top 100 for two weeks. The song also earned Whitney a Grammy for Best Female Pop Performance in 1988.
On a more personal note, the late 80’s were when MTV music videos were a BIG thing, and it was not uncommon around the Smith household in Lexington to see R.L. and his daughter Abby dancing to this song as the TV blared the music video.
